What to know
Miyazaki Shrine (Miyazaki Jingū) is the oldest and most significant shrine in Miyazaki City. It honors Emperor Jimmu, the legendary first emperor of Japan, and is believed to have been founded over 2,600 years ago.
The shrine buildings, made of simple, unpainted cedar, are nestled in the heart of a large, tranquil forest. Throughout the year, festivals and events like yabusame (horseback archery) take place along the wide, tree-lined path.
The Miyazaki Prefectural Museum is located right next to the shrine.
Miyazaki Shrine is a 5-10 minute walk from Miyazaki Jingu Station (3 minutes, 200 yen from Miyazaki Station).
