What to know
Orion Beer is the most famous beer in Okinawa, found in restaurants across the prefecture. It is brewed in Nago City, in the north of Okinawa Main Island. Part of the brewery, known as Orion Happy Park, is open to the public and serves as the starting point for brewery tours. The park also includes a shop, restaurant, and a small history gallery.
Paid brewery tours last about one hour and are conducted in Japanese, with an English guidebook available. Advance reservations can be made online. The tour covers the history of Orion Beer, ingredients and brewing process, views of various factory halls including the bottling lines, and ends with a 20-minute tasting session.
Orion Happy Park is located near the southeastern edge of central Nago City in northern Okinawa Main Island.
From Naha, take highway bus number 111 or 117, or the Yanbaru Express, to Nago Bus Terminal (90 minutes, 1650-2140 yen from Naha Bus Center; 105 minutes, 1650-2230 yen from Naha Airport; 1-2 buses per hour). Transfer to bus number 65 (or 66 in the opposite direction), 70, 77, or 120 for a ten-minute ride (160 yen, multiple connections per hour) to Nangusuku-Iriguchi bus stop (名護城入口). Orion Happy Park is a short walk from the stop.
By car, take the Okinawa Expressway from Naha to its northern end near Nago (1040 yen one way), then follow regular roads to Orion Happy Park. The total journey takes about 90-120 minutes one way (longer during rush hours). Note that Japan has strict drinking and driving laws.
