Abeno Harukas

Visitor guide for Abeno Harukas, formerly the tallest building in Japan.

What to know

Rising 300 meters above Osaka, Abeno Harukas (あべのハルカス) was Japan's tallest skyscraper from its opening in 2014 until 2023. The building sits atop Kintetsu Osaka Abenobashi Station, directly across from JR Tennoji Station. It houses a department store, an art museum, a hotel, and an observation deck.

The observation deck, called "Harukas 300," spans the top three floors (58 to 60). Access is via elevator from the 16th floor. Floor-to-ceiling glass on the 60th floor provides 360-degree views of Osaka, while the 58th floor features a stylish inner courtyard with a wooden deck and cafe. There is also a souvenir shop and restrooms with a view.

Abeno Harukas Kintetsu Department Store is Japan's largest, covering over 100,000 square meters. It consists of two buildings: the tower and the wing. The tower houses international brands, two floors of interior and furnishing, two basement food floors, and three restaurant floors. The interior blends art and functionality.

The wing building, branded as "Solaha," targets a younger crowd with shops, a sports and travel goods floor, and a kids' bookstore. Passages and short escalators connect the two buildings on certain floors.

The Abeno Harukas Art Museum, on the 16th floor near the observation deck elevators, hosts rotating exhibitions of Western and Buddhist art. A garden terrace on the same floor offers green space and views of central Osaka, though not as dramatic as from the 60th floor.

A rooftop plaza on the wing building of the department store is accessible from the 10th floor of the main tower. It features a small vegetable garden, a shrine, and close-up views of the main tower.
