Kinosaki Onsen (城崎温泉) sits on the Sea of Japan coast in northern Hyogo Prefecture. This charming town, built along a willow-lined river, is one of the Kansai Region's top hot spring destinations.
Hot springs were discovered here around the 8th century, and the town has since grown into a delightfully old-fashioned onsen resort. In the evenings, ryokan guests wander the streets in yukata and geta (wooden clogs), visiting the many public baths and nostalgic game arcades.
