Minami (Namba)

Visitor guide for Minami, the southern city center of Osaka around Namba Station.

What to know

Located around Namba Station, Minami (ミナミ, "South") is one of Osaka's two main city centers. It's the city's most famous entertainment district, offering abundant dining and shopping options. The area is easily accessible via three train companies, three subway lines, and a highway bus terminal. The other major center is Kita (キタ, "North"), around Osaka and Umeda stations.

The Minami area centers on Namba Station and the Osaka City Air Terminal (OCAT), served by multiple train and subway lines as well as buses.

Namba Station is not a single station but a collection of buildings and platforms, including Nankai Namba Station, JR Namba Station, and Kintetsu's Osaka-Namba Station. Additionally, the Midosuji, Yotsubashi, and Sennichimae subway lines stop at their respective Namba stations.

Most airport and highway buses serve the Osaka City Air Terminal (OCAT), located in the same building as JR Namba Station.

The Midosuji Subway line connects Shin-Osaka and Osaka/Umeda stations directly to Namba Station. The trip takes about 8 minutes and costs 240 yen from Osaka/Umeda Station, and 15 minutes and 290 yen from Shin-Osaka Station.

Nankai Railway operates direct trains between Kansai Airport and Namba Station. Express trains take around 45 minutes and cost 970 yen (non-reserved seats only), while limited express trains ("Rap:t") take about 35 minutes and cost 1490 yen (reserved seats only).
