Kichijoji

Visitor guide for Kichijoji, a popular district in Tokyo.

What to know

Kichijoji (吉祥寺) is a fashionable neighborhood just west of central Tokyo. It consistently ranks as one of the most desirable places to live among Tokyoites, thanks to its perfect blend of urban convenience and natural beauty—especially Inokashira Park—all within a compact area.

North of the station lies Kichijoji's main shopping district, featuring three key arcades: Sunroad, Harmonica Yokocho, and Daiyagai. Smaller shopping streets branch off these, offering a vast array of shops and restaurants alongside larger stores and department stores.

Kichijoji Station is served by the JR Chuo Line and the Keio Inokashira Line, providing direct access to Shinjuku and Shibuya respectively.

Frequent orange JR Chuo Line rapid trains connect Kichijoji to Shinjuku in 15 minutes (260 yen one way) and Tokyo Station in 30 minutes (440 yen one way).

The Keio Inokashira Line runs frequent trains between Shibuya Station and Kichijoji, taking about 20 minutes and costing 230 yen one way.
