Tokyo MarathonThe Tokyo Marathon is a major city marathon held annually on the first Sunday of March. The race starts at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku and finishes near the Imperial Palace, close to Tokyo Station. The scenic route passes top Tokyo attractions including the Imperial Palace, Tokyo Tower, Asakusa, and Ginza. The event features a full marathon with nearly 40,000 participants and a 10km race with about 500 participants, including wheelchair users and athletes with visual or mental impairments. Festivities include the Tokyo Marathon Expo at Tokyo Big Sight in Odaiba. Applications open the previous summer, and due to high demand, participants are selected by lottery with results announced in early autumn.
