What to know
Takahashi grew at the foot of Matsuyama Castle into a bustling castle town inhabited by samurai, merchants, and craftsmen. Several historic streets near the castle have been preserved, and a number of samurai and merchant houses have been restored and opened to the public. The town also features temples and a few museums.
A convenient discounted combination ticket is available for tourists, covering admission to the castle, Raikyuji Temple, and the two samurai residences for 1000 yen. For 1500 yen, you can get a ticket that also includes the Takahashi Historical Museum and the Yamada Hokoku Museum.
The sights of Takahashi's old town are easily explored on foot, all within a few minutes' walk of each other and a 10-15 minute walk from Bitchu-Takahashi Station.
