Chureito Pagoda

Visitor guide for the Chureito Pagoda with its views of Mount Fuji in combination with cherry blossoms and autumn colors.

What to know

The Chureito Pagoda (Chūreitō) is a five-story pagoda perched on a hillside overlooking Fujiyoshida City and Mount Fuji in the distance. It belongs to the Arakura Sengen Shrine and was built in 1963 as a peace memorial, located nearly 400 steps up the mountain from the shrine's main buildings.

This spot offers breathtaking views of Mount Fuji framed by the pagoda, especially during cherry blossom season in mid-April when hundreds of trees bloom, and during autumn colors in the first half of November. It's a favorite among photographers for capturing iconic Japan images.

Arakura Sengen Shrine is a ten-minute walk from Shimo-Yoshida Station on the Fujikyu Railway Line (35 minutes, 980 yen from Otsuki or 10 minutes, 310 yen from Kawaguchiko). The pagoda is another five-minute walk uphill.
