What to know
The Fuji Five Lakes region (Fujigoko) sits at the northern foot of Mount Fuji, about 1000 meters above sea level. It encompasses five lakes: Kawaguchiko, Saiko, Yamanakako, Shojiko, and Motosuko. This area offers some of the closest and most spectacular views of Mount Fuji and serves as a popular base for climbing the mountain.
Fujigoko is a renowned lake resort where outdoor activities like hiking, camping, fishing, and snow sports thrive. The area also boasts numerous hot springs and museums, plus Fuji Q Highland—one of Japan's top amusement parks, famous for its record-breaking roller coasters.
Among the five lakes, Lake Kawaguchiko is the most accessible and offers the widest range of attractions and activities for international visitors. The other four lakes are less developed and harder to reach by public transport.
