What to know
Nestled between Lake Motosuko and Lake Saiko, Lake Shojiko (精進湖, Shōjiko) is the smallest of the Fuji Five Lakes. Along with its two neighbors, it was formed when lava flows from Mount Fuji split a large prehistoric lake into three smaller bodies. The lakes appear to remain connected by underground waterways, as they consistently maintain the same water level of 900 meters above sea level.
Lake Shojiko borders the Aokigahara Jukai forest and remains largely undeveloped, save for a few hotels along its northern shore that offer superb views of Mount Fuji. Outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and fishing are popular around the lake, along with water sports like water skiing, jet skiing, and boating.
The Omni Bus Blue Line provides infrequent connections between Kawaguchiko Station, Lake Shojiko, and Lake Motosuko. A one-way trip from Kawaguchiko Station to Lake Shojiko takes about 40 minutes. Alternatively, regular buses run every 1–2 hours from Kawaguchiko Station to Lake Shojiko, bound for Shin-Fuji, Shimobe Onsen, or Motosuko. The one-way journey takes 25–40 minutes and costs around 1300 yen.
