What to know
Kawaguchiko Music Forest (河口湖オルゴールの森, Kawaguchiko Orgel no Mori) is a small theme park and museum dedicated to automatic musical instruments. The main hall showcases antique music boxes, mechanical organs, and other self-playing instruments, mostly from Europe. The centerpiece is a massive French fairground organ from 1905 that fills an entire hall and performs every 30 minutes. The main building also features a concert hall where classical musicians from around the world give performances.
The outdoor area consists of European-style gardens with excellent views of Mount Fuji across the lake. Walking paths meander through manicured lawns and a winding canal, connecting the museum's cafe, shops, chapel, and rose garden. The Music Forest is operated by the Ukai Group, which also runs the Glass Forest, a Venetian glass museum in Hakone.
The Omni Bus Red Line (Kawaguchiko Line) connects Kawaguchiko Station and the Kawaguchiko Music Forest (25 minutes). Get off at Ukai Orugoruno Mori Bijutsukan.
