What to know
The Mount Fuji Panoramic Ropeway (富士山パノラマロープウェイ) climbs 400 meters from the eastern shore of Lake Kawaguchiko to an observation deck near the summit of Mount Tenjo. From the deck, over 1000 meters above sea level, you get sweeping views of the lake below and Mount Fuji.
Most visitors take a round trip on the ropeway, but there is also a hiking trail from the observation deck down the forested slope, taking about 30 minutes. Another trail leads 300 meters uphill to a small shrine at the top of Mount Tenjo, and from there continues to Mount Mitsutoge, a popular day hike with great Fuji views.
The Omni Bus Red Line (Kawaguchiko Line) connects Kawaguchiko Station to the ropeway station (15 minutes). Get off at the Yuransen Ropeway Iriguchi bus stop. You can also walk from Kawaguchiko Station in about 15-20 minutes.
