Mount Fuji World Heritage Center

Visitor guide for the Fuji Visitor Center, a modern museum in Fujinomiya.

What to know

The Mount Fuji World Heritage Center, Shizuoka (Shizuoka-ken Fujisan Sekaiisan Center) is a museum in Fujinomiya dedicated to Mount Fuji. Opened in 2017 to commemorate the mountain's designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site four years earlier, the center features a viewing deck and a range of exhibits on the volcano's seismology, history, and cultural significance. The building's inverted conical shape is reflected in the adjacent pond, creating the silhouette of the iconic mountain.

Inside, visitors follow a 200-meter-long sloping walkway that spirals up through the building's floors. At the top is the Observation Hall, a sleek space with an open-air deck offering spectacular views of Mount Fuji. The center also includes time-lapse displays and interactive exhibits showing how Fujisan was formed and how humans have interacted with it over the centuries. A movie theater screens footage of the mountain across different seasons.

The Mount Fuji World Heritage Center is about a ten-minute walk from Fujinomiya Station and lies along the main approach to Fujisan Sengen Shrine.
