What to know
Fukushima (福島) is the capital city of Fukushima Prefecture in the Tohoku Region of Japan. Nestled at the foot of the Azuma mountain range, about 40 kilometers inland from the Pacific Ocean, it is not a major tourist hub but offers natural and seasonal attractions such as hot springs, hiking trails through dramatic volcanic scenery, and Hanamiyama, one of Japan's most delightful cherry blossom spots.
Fukushima's city center lies 60 kilometers northwest of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant and was never evacuated.
