Castle Road

Visitor guide for the Yume Kyobashi Castle Road, a street in Hikone designed after a castle town.

What to know

Yume Kyobashi Castle Road (夢京橋キャッスルロード) is a street just outside Hikone Castle's outer moat, redesigned to blend the atmosphere of a historic castle town with a modern, pleasant shopping experience.

To recreate the castle town ambiance, the buildings along the road are designed like Edo Period (1603-1868) townhouses, featuring white walls, black roofs, and lattice doors. The street is lined with boutiques, restaurants, cafes, and souvenir shops, making it a delightful stroll after visiting the castle.

Yume Kyobashi Castle Road begins at Kyobashi Bridge, which crosses the outer moat southwest of Hikone Castle, about a 20-minute walk from the station.
