What to know
The Hara Museum ARC is a contemporary art museum located next to Green Bokujo near Ikaho Onsen. Its spacious countryside setting allows for permanent outdoor installations around the grounds, such as a giant version of Andy Warhol's iconic Campbell's Soup can standing curiously among the trees.
The museum features rotating exhibitions of contemporary art by Japanese and international artists. In addition to the main indoor space, the Kankei Pavilion houses a collection of traditional East Asian art. The Hara Museum ARC was originally the annex of the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo's Shinagawa district, which closed in 2021.
The Hara Museum ARC is adjacent to Ikaho Green Bokujo. Buses between Shibukawa Station and Ikaho Onsen stop at Green Bokujo en route. Get off at the Green Bokujo-mae bus stop (グリーン牧場前), about 10 minutes and 300 yen from Ikaho Bus Terminal, or 15 minutes and 560 yen from Shibukawa. Buses run every 20–30 minutes.
