What to know
The Jogasaki Coast (城ヶ崎海岸, Jōgasaki Kaigan) is a stunning stretch of shoreline on the eastern side of the Izu Peninsula. Located in the Izu Kogen area, about ten kilometers south of central Ito, it features a nearly ten-kilometer hiking trail that winds along rugged cliffs and unique rock formations. Shorter walks are also possible for those who prefer a less strenuous outing.
The trail's highlight is the Kadowakizaki Suspension Bridge, which spans 23 meters and hangs 48 meters above the sea. Nearby, a lighthouse offers a free observation deck with panoramic views of the coastline and, on clear days, Oshima Island. Parking is available near the bridge and at several other points along the trail.
From Izu Kogen Station, take a bus bound for Kaiyo Koen (海洋公園) and get off at Izu Kaiyo Koen (伊豆海洋公園, 10 minutes, 300 yen one way, every 2 hours). Alternatively, the Jogasaki coast is a 20-30 minute walk from Jogasaki Kaigan Station. Both Izu Kogen and Jogasaki Kaigan stations are on the Izukyu Line, 20 minutes south of Ito and 50 minutes south of Atami.
