What to know
Kamakura boasts several sandy beaches that serve as popular retreats for those looking to escape Tokyo and Yokohama for sunbathing, swimming, and surfing. The official beach season runs from July through August.
Yuigahama and Zaimokuza, located side by side, are Kamakura's most frequented beaches thanks to their easy access and amenities. Consequently, they become quite crowded in summer. Together, they stretch about one kilometer of coastline, offering ample space for sunbathing and swimming. During the season, beach huts provide shade, changing rooms, showers, food, and drinks.
The beaches are roughly a five-minute walk from Yuigahama Station on the Enoden Railway, or about twenty minutes on foot from JR Kamakura Station.
