Hottarakashi Onsen

Visitor guide for Hottarakashi Onsen in Kofu.

What to know

Hottarakashi Onsen (ほったらかし温泉) is a public hot spring facility in the mountains north of Kofu. It offers spectacular panoramic views of the Kofu Plain and surrounding mountains, including Mount Fuji on clear days. The bath opens one hour before sunrise and stays open until after dark, allowing visitors to enjoy both dawn and dusk.

The facility has two separate baths with individual admission fees. Kocchi no Yu ("Here Bath") usually has shorter hours than the adjacent Acchi no Yu ("Over There Bath"), which is positioned further east along the mountainside and provides better sunrise views. The water is highly alkaline and feels silky on the skin.

Hottarakashi Onsen is located on a mountainside northeast of Kofu. There is no public transportation to the bath, but it is about a 30-minute drive from central Kofu. Alternatively, it is a ten-minute taxi ride (around 2500 yen one way) from the nearest train station, Yamanashishi Station on the JR Chuo Main Line (15 minutes, 260 yen from Kofu).
