Sainokawara Park

Visitor guide for Sainokawara Park, a valley where hot spring water bubbles to the surface, with walking trails, hot pools, and a large outdoor bath.

What to know

Sainokawara Park (西の河原公園, Sainokawara Kōen) occupies a valley just outside central Kusatsu, where several hot spring sources and a large outdoor bath are located. Walking trails through the upper part of the park lead through beautiful natural scenery.

Hot spring water bubbles to the surface here and there, collecting into hot pools and flowing down the valley in warm streams before joining the central mountain stream. There is also a hot water waterfall with a free foot bath near its base.

The park's other main attraction is the Sainokawara Rotemburo, a public bath with two large, gender-separated outdoor hot spring pools that can each accommodate 100 bathers.
