What to know
Rising 131 meters directly across from Kyoto Station, Kyoto Tower (京都タワー) is the city's tallest structure and a rare modern icon in a destination famed for ancient temples and shrines. Completed in 1964—the same year the shinkansen began service and Tokyo hosted the Olympics—the tower has become a beloved symbol of Kyoto's modern side.
The observation deck sits 100 meters above ground, offering 360-degree views over Kyoto and, on clear days, all the way to Osaka. Kyoto Tower sits atop a typical commercial building housing souvenir shops, restaurants, and a hotel. A public bath in the basement permanently closed in 2021.
Kyoto Tower is located on the north side (Karasuma Exit) of Kyoto Station.
