Minakami's mountainous and forested landscape makes it a natural haven for outdoor sports and one of Japan's top adventure destinations. In winter, the steep mountain slopes are blanketed in deep snow, and the area's half-dozen snow resorts open for skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing.
Come April, the spring melt swells the Tone River that runs through Minakami, creating ideal conditions for river sports like whitewater rafting, kayaking, and canyoning. Warmer months also bring bungee jumping, mountain biking, and hiking, with new adventure activities added regularly.
Most activities are available as half-day or full-day guided tours during specific seasons. English-speaking guides are available for most tours and activities.
