What to know
Pineapples have been grown on Okinawa for about a century. However, cheaper imports have hurt the local industry in recent decades. To adapt, some farms now promote pineapples as a tourist attraction. Nago Pineapple Park (ナゴパイナップルパーク) is a small, fun theme park born from this shift.
Your admission includes a ride on an automatic cart through pineapple fields and a tropical garden. There's also a souvenir shop where you can sample pineapple products like wine, juice, cake, chocolate, and dried or fresh pineapple. At certain times, you can watch pineapples being peeled, cut, and canned in a small on-site factory.
Nago Pineapple Park is located just outside downtown Nago City on the Motobu Peninsula in northern Okinawa Honto, about 75 kilometers from Naha.
Take highway bus number 111 or 117, or the Yanbaru Express from Naha to Nago Bus Terminal (90 minutes, 1550-2420 yen from Naha Bus Terminal; 105 minutes, 1650-2520 yen from Naha Airport; 1-2 buses/hour). Note that the Yanbaru Express is cheaper and stops at Kencho Kitaguchi bus stop instead of Naha Bus Terminal. From the terminal, a taxi ride to the park takes about 10 minutes (around 1200 yen one way).
By car, take the Okinawa Expressway from Naha to its northern end near Nago (1040 yen one way), then follow regular roads to the park. The total journey takes about 90-120 minutes one way (longer during rush hours).
