What to know
Okinawa World (おきなわワールド) is a touristy theme park dedicated to Okinawan culture. Its main draws are a massive natural cave, a craft village, and a snake museum.
Gyokusendo Cave, stretching five kilometers in total, is the longest cave in southern Okinawa Island and the second longest in Japan. An 850-meter section is open to the public, showcasing impressive stalactites and stalagmites. The cave is well-maintained with comfortable, well-lit walkways.
Kingdom Village is a charming replica of a traditional Ryukyu village, featuring workshops that introduce various Okinawan crafts like weaving, dyeing, papermaking, pottery, and the more recently introduced glass blowing. Many workshops offer hands-on experiences, though some require advance reservations.
Habu Park, named after the infamous local venomous Habu snake, includes a snake museum, a small and somewhat run-down zoo with snakes on display, and a snake show. Throughout the park, visitors have plenty of opportunities to buy local products at numerous souvenir shops. There is also a restaurant specializing in Okinawan cuisine.
Okinawa World is located near the southern tip of Okinawa Honto, about ten kilometers south of Naha. Take bus number 83 from Naha Bus Terminal to its final stop, Gyokusendō Chūshajō (玉泉洞駐車場), right in front of Okinawa World (50 minutes, 670 yen, every 1-2 hours). By car, it takes about 40 minutes from central Naha.
