Okuhida (奥飛騨) is a remote area in Gifu Prefecture, nestled in the Northern Japan Alps. Although it is administratively part of Takayama City, Okuhida lies about an hour by bus from central Takayama, near the border with Kamikochi and Nagano Prefecture.
The Okuhida region is renowned for its hot springs and ranks among Japan's best destinations for large, scenic outdoor baths in natural settings. It is also an ideal place to stay overnight at a traditional ryokan.
