What to know
The Osaka Bay Area consists of several new city districts built on reclaimed land—man-made islands and peninsulas created to accommodate Osaka's expansion. These districts are home to a wide range of tourist attractions, including museums, theme parks, observation decks, and shopping centers. The area also houses Osaka's domestic and international port facilities. Tempozan Harbor Village Connected to central Osaka in under 20 minutes via the Chuo Subway Line, Tempozan Harbor Village offers pleasant shopping and entertainment options. The centerpiece is Tempozan Marketplace, a medium-sized mall surrounded by a giant Ferris wheel and the renowned Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan.
Many of Sakishima Island's facilities are designed for business conferences and trade fairs, but there are also attractions for casual tourists, such as the observation deck at Cosmo Tower and the shopping mall inside the Asia Pacific Trade Center.
Sakurajima Island's main draw is Universal Studios Japan, a hugely popular theme park.
Tempozan Harbor Village and Sakishima Island are linked to central Osaka by the Chuo Subway Line. The line stops at Osakako Station (a 5-minute walk from Tempozan Harbor Village), continues to Cosmosquare Station on Sakishima Island, and terminates on Yumejima Island. From Cosmosquare Station, the elevated New Tram train serves Sakishima Island and eventually connects to Suminoekoen Station on the Yotsubashi Subway Line.
