What to know
Rishiri Island (利尻島, Rishiritō) and Rebun Island (礼文島, Rebuntō) are two small islands near the northern tip of Hokkaido. They belong to the Rishiri-Rebun-Sarobetsu National Park and boast excellent hiking trails, coastal scenery, alpine flowers, and quaint fishing villages.
Rishiri is a round island dominated by the 1,721-meter Mount Rishiri at its center. This volcano is nicknamed Rishiri-Fuji for its resemblance to Mount Fuji. Rebun is longer and flatter, famous for its abundance of alpine flowers that bloom at sea level due to the harsh local climate.
