What to know
Sapporo Station (札幌駅, Sapporo-eki) is the city's main railway station, conveniently located in the heart of downtown. The station complex is surrounded by numerous shopping centers, especially on its south side. Originally built during Hokkaido's early development in the late 1800s, the current station building opened in 2003. A replica of the original station can be seen at the Historic Village of Hokkaido.
The standout attraction in the area is the T38 Observation Deck on the 38th floor of the JR Tower, rising 160 meters above ground. This deck offers much higher views than the 90-meter TV Tower in Odori Park. The observation deck features thoughtful design elements, including viewing areas, information displays, music, and even the washrooms.
Sapporo Station sits at the center of the city and is served by all JR lines and two of the three subway lines. The Sapporo Station Bus Terminal is located to the southeast, with additional bus stops on both sides of the station.
