What to know
Sunport Takamatsu is the redeveloped business and shopping district around JR Takamatsu Station and Takamatsu Port, close to Takamatsu Castle and the Kotoden Railway's terminal, Takamatsu-Chikko Station.
Takamatsu Port was once the main gateway to Shikoku until the Seto Ohashi Bridge connected the island to Honshu in 1988. Today, the port still operates ferries to nearby islands such as Shodoshima, Naoshima, Megijima, and Ogijima.
After the sharp decline in car ferry traffic in 1988, the port area was revitalized with one of Japan's most attractive waterfront promenades and a large pedestrian plaza, bordered by JR Takamatsu Station, JR Hotel Clement, and the Symbol Tower.
The Symbol Tower, the tallest building in Sunport Takamatsu, is a 30-story office building with the Maritime Plaza shopping center on its lower floors and restaurants on its upper floors.
Sunport Takamatsu is located just outside JR Takamatsu Station and across the street from Takamatsu Castle. It is also served by Kotoden Takamatsu-Chikko Station.
