Okuhida (奥飛騨) is a secluded area in Gifu Prefecture nestled in the Northern Japan Alps. Although it is officially part of Takayama City, Okuhida lies about an hour by bus from central Takayama, near the border with Kamikochi and Nagano Prefecture.
This region is renowned for its hot springs and ranks among the best places in Japan to experience large, scenic outdoor baths in natural surroundings and to stay overnight in a traditional ryokan.
