Kasai Rinkai Park

Visitor guide for Kasai Rinkai Park, a park at Tokyo Bay.

What to know

Opened in 1989, Kasai Rinkai Park (葛西臨海公園, Kasai Rinkai Kōen) is the largest park in central Tokyo, located just across the Edogawa River from Tokyo Disney Resort. Built on reclaimed land, it was designed to restore and preserve the natural habitat of Tokyo Bay.

The park offers a refreshing escape from the city, with walking trails winding through gardens, lawns, and beaches. Highlights include an aquarium, a Ferris wheel, a seabird sanctuary, and an observation building.

Near the center of the park, Tokyo Sea Life Park features a main tank with a central viewing area where you can see tuna, bonito, and sharks swimming around you. The aquarium also has excellent penguin and seabird exhibits.

The park's most iconic landmark is the Diamond and Flowers Ferris Wheel, named for its light shows that resemble sparkling diamonds and flowers. At 117 meters tall, it was the world's tallest when it opened in 2001 and is now Japan's second tallest (after the one in Osaka Expocity), offering views of Tokyo Bay and even Mount Fuji on clear days.

In line with its conservation mission, nearly a third of the park is a Sea Bird Sanctuary. Birdwatchers and photographers can explore most areas, though the marshes are off-limits. The Sea Bird Center provides information about local bird species.

The park is right next to Kasai Rinkai Koen Station on the JR Keiyo and JR Musashino lines, 10–15 minutes and 260 yen from Tokyo Station. Note that the Keiyo Line platforms at Tokyo Station are a 10-minute walk from the station's other platforms.
