What to know
Lake Toya (洞爺湖, Tōyako) lies within Shikotsu-Toya National Park. Besides the lake itself, the Toyako area is known for its hot springs and the active Mount Usu volcano, which last erupted in 2000. The region also offers plenty of opportunities for fishing, hiking, and camping.
This scenic lake was chosen as the venue for the G8 summit hosted by Japan in July 2008. Leaders from the world's eight major industrialized nations gathered at the Windsor Hotel Toya Resort & Spa.
