Fuji Five Lakes (Fujigoko)

Travel guide for the Fujigoko, the Fuji Five Lake area at the northern base of Mount Fuji.

What to know

The Fuji Five Lakes (Fujigoko) region sits at the northern foot of Mount Fuji, about 1000 meters above sea level, surrounding the lakes Kawaguchiko, Saiko, Yamanakako, Shojiko, and Motosuko. It offers some of the closest and most stunning views of Mount Fuji and serves as an excellent base for climbing the mountain.

Fujigoko is a popular lake resort area where visitors enjoy hiking, camping, fishing, and snow sports. The region also boasts numerous hot springs, museums, and Fuji Q Highland, one of Japan's top amusement parks featuring record-breaking roller coasters.

Among the five lakes, Lake Kawaguchiko is the most accessible and offers the widest range of attractions and activities for international travelers. The other four lakes are less developed and harder to reach by public transport.
