What to know
The Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station (also known as Yoshidaguchi 5th Station or Kawaguchiko 5th Station) sits roughly halfway up the Yoshida Trail, which runs from Fujiyoshida Sengen Shrine at the base to the summit of Mount Fuji.
It is the most visited of Mount Fuji's four 5th stations, the most developed, and the easiest to reach from Tokyo by public transport. The station is accessible nearly year-round, weather permitting, and remains a popular sightseeing destination even outside the climbing season.
Access is via the scenic Fuji Subaru Line toll road, which climbs the lower northern slopes of Mount Fuji starting from Fujikawaguchiko Town. The toll is 2100 yen, and the road may be partially closed in winter during heavy snow. During the main climbing season (July 5 to September 10, 2025), private vehicles are banned, and shuttle buses run from designated parking lots at the base to the 5th station.
The 5th station offers parking, coin lockers, restaurants, and shops—the last place to buy reasonably priced supplies before heading up. Hiking sticks, snacks, water, and oxygen can be purchased here, though they are also available along the trail at higher prices as you gain elevation.
At 2300 meters, the station provides sweeping views of the Fuji Five Lakes area, attracting visitors who are not climbing. An observation point behind Komitake Shrine offers clear vistas of Fujiyoshida City and Lake Yamanaka.
The Yoshida Trail is the most popular route to the summit, and sections can become crowded during the season, especially above the 8th station. On the plus side, there are many mountain huts, separate uphill and downhill tracks, and good sunrise views for those who don't reach the summit in time. The ascent takes about 5-7 hours, and the descent 3-5 hours.
