What to know
In 1998, Nagano successfully hosted the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, marking the third time Japan held the Olympics. Events took place in Nagano City and nearby mountain towns such as Hakuba, Karuizawa, Nozawa, and Shiga Kogen.
Today, many of the former Olympic facilities can still be seen around the city. They now serve as sports and concert venues or are used by the local community for athletic activities. Their distinctive architecture continues to attract both locals and tourists.
The former Olympic facilities are scattered around Nagano City and can be reached by city buses from Nagano Station. Renting a car offers more flexibility and convenience, as buses may run infrequently. Rental car offices are available near Nagano Station.
