Cape Nagasakibana

Visitor guide for Cape Nagasakibana, located at the southern tip of the Satsuma Peninsula.

What to know

Cape Nagasakibana (長崎鼻岬, Nagasakibana Misaki) marks the southernmost point of the Satsuma Peninsula. However, it is not the southernmost tip of Kyushu—the Osumi Peninsula on the opposite side of Kagoshima Bay extends about 20 kilometers farther south. A walking path leads from a small cluster of souvenir shops to a white lighthouse at the cape's tip.

A highlight of visiting the cape is the view of nearby Mount Kaimondake, which rises 924 meters above sea level. Its conical shape closely resembles Mount Fuji, earning it the nickname "Satsuma Fuji." You can hike up the mountain via a trail that winds around its slopes, offering plenty of breathtaking views of the surrounding area.

Another attraction at the cape is the Nagasakibana Parking Garden, featuring a variety of tropical plants and animals such as lemurs, flamingos, squirrels, monkeys, hibiscus, cacti, and mango trees. A bit farther north lies Flower Park Kagoshima, with an even larger collection of plants.

Infrequent buses run from Ibusuki Station to Cape Nagasakibana (40 minutes, 670 yen, every 2 hours until mid-afternoon). These buses are bound for Ikedako (Lake Ikeda) and also stop at Yamakawa Station, Healthy Land, and Flower Park Kagoshima.
