What to know
The Shinyokohama Ramen Museum (新横浜ラーメン博物館, Shin-Yokohama Ramen Hakubutsukan) is a unique museum dedicated to ramen, a popular noodle dish originally introduced from China.
On the first floor, a gallery traces the history of ramen in Japan, including the huge success of instant ramen. It showcases the variety of noodles, soups, toppings, and bowls used across the country, and demonstrates how the noodles are made.
The two basement floors feature a 1:1 replica of streets and houses from Shitamachi, Tokyo's old town, as it looked in the 1950s when ramen was rapidly gaining popularity. Nine ramen restaurants are located here, each serving a ramen dish from a different region of Japan.
For those who want to try multiple ramen dishes, each store offers "mini ramen"—a small portion of its signature dish. Meal tickets are purchased from vending machines in front of each store before entering.
The Ramen Museum is a 5-10 minute walk from Shin-Yokohama Station.
